New Years Non Resolutions

No resolutions here, accountability is not my middle name. Ok, "if" I made resolutions I wouldn't tell anyone because then I might have to keep them. I prefer lists; just writing down what is bouncing around in my head helps.

So, I've already planned next years Christmas cards. I try to write in each one so the recipeints get an inkling about me, ie., I'm still alive, etc. Next years cards will just say, Dear _____, You know how it is. Merry Christmas.

I started my new year off feeling rather defeated by my old Sabina loom. Determined to teach myself how to read and warp a pattern by using my book, I put a warp of linen on, threaded it: 1,3,1,3,1,2,4,2,4,2. A pattern called huck. OK, I did it. After crawling around the floor and re-hooking my treadles so that the proper harnesses are raised and lowered as they should - gah, something went horribly wrong. I don't know what it is, I'm so sad. I can't get a good shed when just one of the harnesses is up and the others are down. I think has to do with the archaic mechanisms that operate my loom. My teacher looked at it and shook his head so I guess I won't call him. The upper shed is all limp, it's really sad. I said that already didn't I? Well, I'll struggle along and finish up and not use a pattern that commands too much of me or my loom next time, it's supposed to be fun.
Yay for getting it almost right though!!!

Ooh, that's so sad.
I don't have any advice since I haven't used a loom that needs tieups, but heaps of commiserations.
I'm putting on a warp - very short so I thought it would be quick. Instead I've grown all thumbs, it's wide so there's actually lots to do, and because I expected it to be easy I keep doing stupid things.
Most days weaving is fabulous. Some days, not so much.
Cheers
Judy

I'm sorry your loom is misbehaving. If you want to post pictures and ask for advice, I'm sure your online weaving buddies might have an idea. (Not necessarily me - but some one!) It's always a bad feeling when you ask your weaving teacher something and they respond with a comment like "Oh dear." which means they won't help with that. But that doesn't mean there's not some one else who will help!

Love your list for the New Year. Mosaic might be on my list too. A beautiful plate that I used at a New Year's Eve party broke on New Year's Day.....I might have to make it into something mosaic-ish!

Happy New Year!
